When you live in Victoria and you feel the exterior of your home is looking a bit tired, is the only solution to find a residential landscaping service in Melbourne? Or, is there more you could do? A landscaping company will certainly bring a lot to the table, but let’s look more widely at the things you can do to breathe new life into your home exterior.
1. Start with the Front Door
Redoing your front door is the perfect starting point to revitalising your home’s exterior. The front door is typically a highly visible and focal point of the entire design. Its colour, style, and decoration say a lot about your home, and to change any of those aspects is easy as adding a coat of paint. Alternatively, you could switch the door out completely for a new one with a fresher, more vibrant material, perhaps something heavier with a greater feeling of quality and grandeur.
2. Pathways and Lighting
A well-constructed path from your driveway or the sidewalk right to your front door is a terrific and relatively simple way to boost the exterior look. You can mark out a path with a garden hose or by laying stones to determine what a path would look and feel like. You can dig the path yourself of course, but this is the type of thing that a landscaper would be better at.
On top of building a path, you’ll need lighting. This adds a whole new dimension to the exterior of your home, especially in the evening when it’s time to turn them on. Lighting can be used to highlight other features that you place along the path such as potted plants or trees. The effect is really stunning and will make people look at the property in a whole new light — pun intended.
3. Refresh the Porch/Deck
If you have a visible deck from the kerb, then a coat of paint and some new furnishings can do wonders. Without spending a whole lot of cash, you can create a warm, inviting and envy-inducing deck space that others can’t help but admire. Remember though that you’re doing this more for yourself than just to gain the admiration of others. Use colours and furnishings that are to your taste and that you can be proud of.
4. Wash the Cladding
Whatever kind of cladding you have, it could likely do with a wash if you haven’t done that in a long time. It’s a good idea to wash cladding about once a year to keep it looking its best. If you can manage it twice a year, then even better. If the colour is looking dull on the cladding, then a fresh coat of paint on there can also do wonders. Just like how a fresh coat brightens up any room in your home, a fresh coat of colour on the exterior does much the same for your kerb appeal. It can make it look new again!
5. Check the Roof and Gutters
Roof problems and poor guttering can be the source of much unsightly mess around your home’s exterior. Get a proper inspection done on your roof and gutter to make sure everything is in order. One particularly important functional thing to check is the metal flashing around the chimney and/or vents that you have in the roof. This needs to be shored up to prevent leaks from occurring. Your roof shingles may also have mildew growing on them, which needs to be treated.
No change to your home’s exterior has to be so dramatic. Even small things you do can make a big difference.
