Outdoor exercises may be challenging during rainy weather, but it does not necessarily need to interfere with your exercise routine. Being at home provides you with ample time to move, stretch, build muscles, and enhance cardiovascular health. With limited equipment or even no equipment at all, you can complete an effective workout at home.

Selecting appropriate indoor exercises rainy day workouts can be used to stay consistent in case of heavy rain, slippery roads, or wet weather and outdoor activities are not possible. The trick is to choose exercises that suit your fitness level and space. The following are some of the easy and effective ways to make your body active on rainy days.

#1. Jumping Jacks for a Quick Cardio Boost

One of the simplest exercises that can be done indoors is jumping jacks. They increase your heart rate in a short period of time and exercise your arms, shoulders, legs, and core.

Begin with your feet close and arms lying next to your body. Leap, and spread your feet and your arms above your head. Go back to the initial position and repeat the movement.

Do jumping jacks 30-60 seconds, then take a brief rest. Novices can begin slowly and progressively pick up.

#2. Bodyweight Squats for Stronger Legs

Squats are a great workout that builds the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and core without the use of gym equipment. They come in handy especially when you are in need of a good workout of the lower body at home.

Stand with your feet around shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees and push your hips back with your chest raised. Get down on your knees, and then push up with your feet to get back on your feet.

Attempt three rounds of 10-15 repetitions. Keep movements under control rather than hurry through each repetition.

#3. Push-Ups for Upper-Body Strength

Another good alternative to an indoor workout is push-ups. They work your chest, shoulders, arms and abdominal muscles and enhance overall upper-body strength.

Keep your hands a little bit further than your shoulders and your legs behind you. Hold your body straight and bend your chest down to the floor. Pull yourself up keeping the correct form.

Novices can do modified push-ups with their knees on the floor. You can then progressively transition to regular push-ups as your strength increases.

#4. Mountain Climbers for Full-Body Movement

Mountain climbers are a good supplement to indoor exercises rainy day workouts because they are a combination of strength and cardio. They are able to speed up your heart rate and work your core, shoulders, and legs.

Start in a high plank with your hands directly under your shoulders. Bend one knee to your chest and then alternate legs. Keep on alternating but maintain your hips as stable as possible.

Begin with 20-30 seconds and have a short rest and repeat. Maintain the movement to minimize unwarranted strain.

#5. Lunges for Balance and Mobility

Lunges are a good exercise that builds your lower body and tests your balance and coordination. They exercise some of the largest muscle groups, such as the glutes, thighs, and calves.

Stand erect and take one step forward. Bend both knees until the front thigh is in a comfortable position. Use your front foot to push yourself back to the standing position and repeat on the other side.

Do two or three sets of 10 repetitions each leg. Make sure that you maintain a steady movement and do not allow your front knee to collapse inwards.

#6. Planks for Core Stability

A powerful core helps in posture, balance, and daily movement. Planks are a good method of training your back and abdominal muscles without any equipment.

Lay your forearms on the floor and stretch your legs backwards. Keep your body straight with your head and heels. Tighten your abdominal muscles and hold the position.

Begin with 20 to 30 seconds and slowly increase the time as you get more and more endurance.

7. Dance Workouts for Fun and Fitness

Workout does not necessarily have to be a formal workout. Dancing to your favorite music can be a fun cardio workout and can also help you become more coordinated and endure longer.

Prepare a list of upbeat music and dance throughout 20 to 30 minutes. Include basic exercises like side steps, knee lifts, arm swings, and squats.

Dancing is particularly helpful when one is not motivated as it is a combination of movement and entertainment.

Create Your Own Rainy-Day Workout

A balanced routine may include a number of indoor exercises rainy day activities all in one session. Begin with five minutes of mild warm-up exercises. Follow with squats, push-ups, lunges, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, and planks.

Finish with five to ten minutes of stretching for your legs, shoulders, arms, and back. Do not forget to drink plenty of water and exercise on a non-slippery surface.

The bad weather should not halt your fitness ambitions. The right indoor exercises rainy day routine will help you to be active, gain strength, endurance, and make your time at home more productive.
